L'évolution créatrice d'Henri Bergson (1907) est considérée comme son œuvre la plus importante. Lecteur sympathique mais critique de Darwin, Bergson s'oppose dans L'évolution créatrice à une vision mécaniste et réductionniste de l'évolution. Pour Bergson, toute vie émerge d'une impulsion créative et partagée, qu'il appelle fameusement l'élan vital et qui passe comme un courant à travers différents organismes et générations au fil du temps. Cette nouvelle traduction, la première depuis plus de cent ans, comprend également un avant-propos fascinant d'Elizabeth Grosz et une introduction approfondie du traducteur, Donald Landes. Sont également traduits pour la première fois des notes, articles, critiques et lettres supplémentaires sur la réception de L'évolution créatrice en biologie, en mathématiques et en théologie. Cette édition comprend également des commentaires des philosophes Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Georges Canguilhem et Gilles Deleuze.
